Esk Reservoir Project Launch: Strengthening Community and Cultural Connections

We are thrilled to announce the commencement of the Esk Reservoir project with Urban Utilities, a key component of our Water North Zones Program. This project is set to significantly enhance the water supply reliability for the growing Somerset community.

Located on Highland Street, the new reservoir will store 1.5 million litres of water. We are also installing 500 metres of water pipes beneath Highland Street to provide seamless service with minimal disruption to local residents.

We celebrated the start of the project with a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony led by James Bonner, the Traditional Owner of the Land, along with representatives from Urban Utilities and Diona. These ceremonies highlight our commitment to our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and demonstrate our shared values of respect for the land and its traditional custodians.

The heartwarming support from the local Country Women’s Association, who provided sandwiches and scones, brought a delightful touch of community spirit to our launch day. We extend our gratitude to everyone involved, particularly our community relations teams and local partners, for making this event successful and meaningful.

As we proceed with the construction of the Esk reservoir, expected to take around eight months, we remain dedicated to enhancing community infrastructure and honouring cultural values.

Join us in celebrating this milestone as we work to improve the infrastructure and cultural integrity of the communities we serve.
