Tanunda Gas Pipeline
APA Group
Tanunda, South Australia, Australia
On behalf of APA, Diona constructed 6.7km of gas pipeline to the town of Tanunda. This included a 700m section of DN150 steel transmission pressure pipeline from the EPIC Energy Gate Station Nuriootpa, a 5km section of 280mm PE80 high pressure pipeline, and a 1km section of 180mm PE80 high pressure pipeline.
The Tanunda transmission pressure and high pressure pipelines were the first stage in a larger program to provide mains-supply gas to the town. Located in the Barossa Valley region of South Australia, Tanunda’s economic wellbeing is based on the wine industry, fruit and nut growing/processing, tourist accommodation, cafes, restaurants and takeaway food services. Domestic and commercial gas users in the town had previously relied upon bottled gas to meet their needs.
Despite some delays due to extreme weather, the project was completed several weeks ahead of schedule. This enabled APA to proceed with the reticulation stage of the project, facilitating the sale of gas to the local community sooner than anticipated.
