Parramatta Light Rail (Enabling Works)
Transport for New South Wales
Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia
As one of the NSW Government’s largest major infrastructure projects, the Parramatta Light Rail is expected to open in 2023 and will ultimately serve a growing Sydney by providing accessible public transport to the heart of one of Sydney’s largest CBD areas.
The Diona Ward Joint Venture was appointed to deliver the Enabling Works contract which encompasses the relocation and installation of utilities, changes and upgrades to the existing road network.
This work is required to accommodate an increase in traffic capacity to ensure traffic can move in and around adjacent roads to the light rail alignment once the light rail is operational.
The relocation and upgrade of utilities provides long term benefits to the local community through increased efficiency, reliability, safety, sustainability and reduced lifecycle costs.
The work commenced in late 2018 and is expected to be completed by mid-2020.
As one of TfNSW’s construction partners, Diona’s Community Relations team continues to work closely with the local community to keep stakeholders informed and minimise disruption within a highly dense residential and commercial region of Parramatta.
With over 9000 directly impacted stakeholders, the team is working closely with all stakeholders to problem solve community challenges, and ensure the project delivers a mutually beneficial result for the local community and client.
Some of the provisions in place include specialist equipment and multiple acoustic barriers to reduce and contain the noise level and allow respite periods.
