Reduce, reuse, recycle

Original story from SA Water website here.

On SA Water's recent upgrade works, reduce, reuse, recycle has never been more relevant for the Gawler Scouts group.

As SA Water's capital delivery partner for the water north portfolio, the McConnell Dowell Diona joint venture (MDJV) are about to install 880 metres of new water pipeline into the Gawler Belt and Willaston area. This will improve water pressure and quality for SA Water's customers in that area.

As part of the important upgrades to the network, MDJV were preparing the site for works to start and sadly, a peppercorn tree needed to be removed.

Sharing SA Water's ongoing commitment to a sustainable environment, MDJV sought to repurpose the tree back into the local community.

The team reached out to a local Gawler Scouts group to see if they would be interested in giving the tree a different lease of life - and the answer was yes.

MDJV Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Manager Jessica Oxley said the Gawler Scouts Group were thrilled to have the peppercorn tree to repurpose.

"They had been looking for some seating around their campfire, which they use a lot during the winter months," said Jessica.

"We were able to meet some of the kids from the Scouts Cub program on Wednesday when the logs were donated and they were eager to tell us all about the adventures they have had over the school holidays and even invited us back for a campfire with them."

The group will now work to repurpose the logs for their campfire this coming winter. We hope they all enjoy the seats and a stack of toasted marshmallows too.
