Diona recognised at SafeWork NSW 2019 Awards

Diona was proud to be recognised with the Category 1: Leadership in workplace health and safety culture - embedding a WHS landscape within your business - large business Award at the SafeWork NSW Awards in Sydney on 31 October.

“Safety is our first priority at Diona, and we aim to be Australia’s safest infrastructure provider. We appreciate the award, but recognise we still have some way to go to be Australia’s safest,” said Executive General Manager of Diona, Charlie Haire.

Mr Haire congratulated Diona’s National Safety Manager Paul Lyndon, GM of Operations John O'Connor, National Environmental and Community Manager Chris Arrington and Health and Safety Manager (Qld, SA and Vic) Paul Stewart whom were instrumental in developing and implementing the ‘HSEQ Simple’ program across the business.

“I would also like to thank Russell Higgins who delivered the ‘Safety Leadership’ program to the Diona leadership team over the past twelve months. The leadership training and HSEQ Simple were the turning points for safety at Diona. Since implementing these initiatives, we have seen great improvements in the safety culture and leadership across our team which has significantly reduced incidents and injuries.

“Most of the recognition for this award should go to our project teams for their commitment to safety, safe worksites and the community as we could not have achieved this award without your efforts,” said Mr Haire.

In a press release by SafeWork NSW, Minister for Better Regulation and Innovation Kevin Anderson congratulated the winners of the 2019 SafeWork Awards.

“The SafeWork Awards recognises the hard work of employees and businesses with the most outstanding workplace health and safety standards and return to work outcomes,” Mr Anderson said.

“The winners are setting new standards for providing safe and healthy workplaces across NSW.

“Every worker has the right to work in a safe environment, so they can return to their homes and loved ones at the end of the day,” Mr Anderson said.

“These awards acknowledge the commendable work we see in categories including ‘Leadership in Workplace health and safety culture’, ‘Best Solution to High Risk Work Health and Safety Issue’, as well as acknowledging ‘Excellence in Recovery at Work’ for both businesses and individuals.

“I congratulate all the winners of the 2019 SafeWork NSW Awards and thank them for setting the benchmark in work health and safety and return to work for others to follow,” Mr Anderson said.

The SafeWork NSW Award recognises Diona for the following:

“Diona has implemented a number of highly successful initiatives such as their safety leadership workshops, HSEQ Simple and 'consultation saves lives' programs.

Diona demonstrates its commitment to embedding a work health and safety culture by having safety conversations at all levels. Leaders and senior managers are more involved in safety conversations than ever, resulting in an increase in the reporting of workplace health and safety issues.

Diona’s innovative suite of safety programs empower their workers to improve safety culture every day. These programs encourage early consultation, good reporting, and easy implementation of effective safety systems.”
