Education & Engagement: Inspiring Future Water Warriors

ESG Alignment

Environmental responsibility is a central theme of the Water Warriors initiative. By teaching young students about the water cycle, pollution prevention, and responsible wastewater habits, the program builds early awareness of environmental stewardship. These lessons encourage children to adopt sustainable water behaviours at home and in their communities—contributing to long-term conservation and protection of this essential resource.

Partnering with local schools, Urban Utilities helps bring water education to life in a fun, accessible way. The program fosters connection, creativity, and inclusivity—empowering 250 students to become ‘Water Warriors’ and share their learning with families and peers. It’s an investment in community wellbeing, youth engagement, and local pride.

This initiative demonstrates strong governance through collaboration, transparency, and alignment with regional education goals. By working with Urban Utilities and local schools, Diona supports structured, meaningful community engagement that is both measurable and replicable. It also reinforces the company’s commitment to ethical, values-driven operations that extend beyond project sites into the heart of the communities they serve.

SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation; SDG 4: Quality Education; SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities; SDG 13: Climate Action; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals

Diona’s Queensland Community Relations Team recently partnered with the Urban Utilities Education Team to bring the Water Warriors Show to Glenore Grove State School in the Lockyer Valley.

With the help of puppets Blocka and Wasteful Walter, alongside Lucy Loo and Drip Drop, the 250 students learned about the water cycle, the importance of protecting our water resources, and the three P’s of wastewater management. The energy in the room was electric—laughter and singing filled the air as the children became ‘Water Warriors’ ready and excited to take their new knowledge home and become advocates for water sustainability.

We are thrilled to support Urban Utilities in bringing water education to schools across the region. It was a fantastic day of learning, fun, and community connection—reinforcing our commitment to making a difference beyond project delivery and creating lasting, positive impacts in the communities where we work. By inspiring young minds to value water and sustainability, we contribute to a more informed and responsible future generation.
