Diona's contribution to excellence in environmental management
Through the projects Diona delivers, providing effective environmental management and capability becomes a fundamental responsibility.
Diona's established Environmental Management System (EMS) contains a detailed and steadfast method, fully compliant with standard AS/NZS 14001 accreditation system. This system takes an integrated approach to ensure our work practices reduce any negative impacts on the environment.
Implementing this system at Diona are fully trained Environmental Engineers and Scientists. They are responsible for ensuring all staff are up to date on our environmental protection, waste documentation, water conservation and greenhouse gas reduction policies. This information is always made available to cover all aspects of Environmental management.
Our system certifies our staff are trained with the latest environmental management techniques and specialised site inductions. It is Diona's policy to always deliver the best possible solution with the ability to identify and manage environmental issues, and be vigilant in preventing the destruction of the environment.
Through this system, Diona offers a unique arrangement with expertise in environmental monitoring, measurement and treatment. We have a proven outstanding record from several complex construction projects.
Beginning in May 2009 and completed in January 2010, Diona took on a challenging project for Hunter Water. 7km of 900mm diameter trunkmain was installed through Ash Island situated in Tarro, Newcastle. Several wetland crossings, high water tables, water treatment and acid sulphate soil were some of the extensive environmental challenges met. Diona designed, constructed and commissioned our own water treatment unit, used for all dewatering applications. Soil segregation and a stabilisation process produced over 7000 tonnes of stabilised, capped and reinstated material that was found contaminated on site. Diona's environmental innovation ensured the protection of the surrounding site.
The Byron Shire Council has also recognised Diona's contribution to the environmental success of the Brunswick Area Sewerage Augmentation Scheme. From April 2009 to October 2010, this scheme was combined with the Brunswick Estuary Management Plan, with both recognised for Excellence in Environmental Management (see link below). Also, after being recognised as a category winner for Innovation in Natural Resource Management, the Brunswick Area Sewerage Augmentation Scheme was awarded the overall prize for Excellence in Local Government for the same project.
Diona is constantly improving on our achievements, with the development of new techniques and approaches. This management is continuously adapted to meet new projects site speific parameters, striving to provide an environmental positive outcome.
