Diona Ward JV secures Parramatta Light Rail contract

Diona has been awarded the ‘Enabling Works’ contract for the Parramatta Light Rail project as part of the Diona Ward Joint Venture (comprising Diona Pty Ltd and Ward Civil & Environmental Engineering Pty Ltd). These works will involve relocating underground utilities, upgrades to intersections, traffic light installation/modification, landscaping, and changes to street lanes and parking.

A major infrastructure project for the NSW Government, Parramatta Light Rail will connect Westmead to Carlingford via Parramatta CBD and Camellia to support this growing region.

According to Transport for NSW (TfNSW) Parramatta Light Rail Program Director Tim Poole, nearly 30,000 people are predicted to use the service every day by 2026.

“These enabling works are vital to keep the city moving and to minimise disruption for the people of Parramatta. These changes, while not directly along the Parramatta Light Rail route, will provide additional capacity and connections for everyone in the CBD before, during and after the light rail construction,” said Mr Poole.

Diona NSW General Manager, Tim Kelly said that Diona is pleased to be working with Transport for NSW and JV partners Ward Civil and are looking forward to commencing works later this year.

“There is a significant amount of infrastructure works to be completed before the construction of the light rail system can commence. Diona specialises in working in complex environments such as built-up city centres, and our primary focus will be on minimising disruption to the community. Ensuring residents, businesses and other stakeholders are kept informed about the works will be a top priority for our team,” he said.

Enabling Works are expected to start in late 2018 with the main works to begin in 2019.
