With electricity demand in the Toowong area experiencing strong growth, a $13 m Program of Work project is now underway involving the installation of two new 33kV feeders from Ashgrove West substation to Toowong substation.
The new feeders, which will replace the existing 55 years old feeders, will improve reliability and security of the network.
Civil engineering contractor, Diona Pty Ltd, has already commenced work on the underground design and construction component. The substation work will be handled by Energy Delivery’s Major Projects Department. Network Programming and Procurement Senior Project Manager Des King, said the project so far has been a great success.
“We’re ahead of schedule, have no community issues and we’ve got a great working relationship between all concerned,” he said.
“It’s a good demonstration of what can be achieved by having close working relationships between ENERGEX, contractors and the community.”
The 33kV underground cable component is ahead of schedule and will be installed by the end of January 2009. The substation work is expected to be completed by April 2010.
